PUNCTUATIONS

Punctuations :विरामचीन्हे

No one can write or speak continuesly.If he did it.We are not able to understand it properly.It is necessary that we must take a pause or rest at particular place to clear our talking or writing. 

We use some symbols to indicates pause.These symbols are called punctuations.

Punctuations makes writing or reading clear and more effective.And one can easily understand our speech or writing.

We often use some important punctuations, while reading or writing,these are following...

1)Full Stop(.) : पूर्णविराम
It is mostly used at the end of assertive and imperative sentences.
Example a)My name is John.
b)Please go ahead.

It is also used after initials and abbreviations.
Example : a) Dr.B.R.Ambedkar
b)a.m  c)M.B.B.S. etc.

2) Question Marks(?) : प्रश्नार्थक
It is used at the end of the questions,tags,wh words that shows question.
Example : a)Why not?
b)What?
c)He is clever, isn't he?
d)When did she get up?

3)Exclamatory Marks(!) : उद्गगारार्थी
This is used after a word,phrases or sentence that express sudden feeling or emotions.
Example : a)Wow! b)How graceful!
c)Such enormous Watermelon!
d)What an imaginary story!

4)Comma(,) :स्वल्प विराम
It is used in compound sentence to separate long co ordinate clause.
Example :It is not certain if she will do it,but you can wait all the same.
Comma is used between words,phrases or clauses in a series.

Example : a)He bought except apples,mangoes and lemons.
b)She is an engineer,he is a tailor ,Ganga is doctor and I am a pilot.

It is used after or before reporter in the reported speech.
A)Viju said,"Who are you?"
B)"What is it?",Nehru asked.

It is used to separate two sentences in the reported speech.
Example :Maya said,"Don't worry,we'll learn when we have to."

It is used after the words yes,no,besides , however etc.
Example : Ravina says,"Yes,I will come with you."


5) Apostrophe (') : षष्टि 
 It is used the possessive of a noun.
Example : a)The man's hat, b) Raju's mobile

It is also used to omissions of the letters.
Example : wasn't (was not)
We've (we have)

6)Inverted commas("   ") : अवतरण
These are used to separate direct speech from the rest of the sentence.
Example : "The things."
"Where is my bag?",asked the man.

It is used to mark out titles of the stories,poems etc.
"From Sir With Love",Motherland."

It is used to enclose quoted words or phrases within a sentence.
Example :Without even so much as a "sorry"he went away.

7)Hyphen(-) : संयोग
It is used when spelling out compound numbers Example : Fifty - five, Twenty - eight.
While writing fractions used as adjectives :
Two - fifth of the glass.

After prefixes such as all, ex, self :
All - Indian, ex - service, self - employee etc.

It is used between parts of some compound nouns.
Example : mother - in - law, father-in- law

8)The Dash( _ ) :अपसरण
It is used to shows a sudden change or break in thought.
Example : I am sure he will agree_but no,he is so self_willed.

To suggest halting or hesitant speech.
Example : He_he_can't imagine_er_what they would have done without you,"he mumbled.

9)Colon(:) : अपूर्ण विराम
It is used to give details about something.
Maharashtra is famous for its :place,old building,temples,caves, pilgrimage, sculpture and lake.

It is used after someone's quotation.
Example : Gandhiji says :The greatest lessons are learnt by the children.

10)Semicolon(;) : अर्ध विराम
It is used to separate two sentence.
Example :He is ill ; but he went to school.


11)Caret(^) : काकपद
To indicates omissions of the words or phrases.
Example :              car
         I have a new ^   today.

Capital Letters : मोठे मूळाक्षर
It is used to begins of the every sentences,poems, proper nouns of animals,rivers, mountain,novels,cities,days, festivals etc
Example : Rajasthan.
Mohini goes to there.
Merry had a little lamb...

The pronoun 'I' and the interjection 'o' is always capital. Example : I am a man.
She tells you,O ye man of little faith.
O lord ! help them.

First letter of any title must be capital.
Government, Treatment, President etc.

The first letter of the sentence of the inverted commas.
Daya said,"Stop talking."

We should write each letters of the degree, organization and exams etc.
SSC,HSC,WHO,MBBS etc.
